Georgia to receive AstraZeneca vaccine this week

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze has stated that 43,200 doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine will enter Georgia this weekend.
She stated medical personnel and risk groups will be vaccinated first.
Tikaradze said that Georgia is likely to receive 29,250 doses of Pfizer vaccine by the end of March.
She said that the country is negotiating with Israel, China and other partner states to receive additional doses of Chinese, AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines in the coming months.
Tikaradze stated that Georgia has already ordered 100,000 doses of a Chinese vaccine which is likely to receive the approval of the World Health Organisations in the near future.
Georgian Health Officials stated earlier this week that the country is likely to purchase the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines.
Dozens of Georgian children have developed a multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) which is a rare but serious complication associated with COVID-19, Radio Liberty has reported.
Georgia has reported 395 new cases of coronavirus, 310 recoveries and 9 deaths in the past 24 hours.24,594 tests have been conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 15,065 of the 24,594 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 9,529 were PCR tests. The country has had 274,045 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020. 267,421 of the 274,045 patients have recovered, while 3,622 have died of the virus. Currently 2,976 individuals remain infected with Covid-19.
The Pfizer vaccine is expected to arrive in Georgia in the week of March 22, announces Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia. Gabunia said that the AstraZeneca vaccine may also be introduced in the country by the end of March.
While discussing the Covid-19 vaccination process with Director-General of the WHO Tedros Adanom Gebreisus, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated the government is doing its best for Georgia to receive first doses of vaccine as soon as possible.

Georgia has reported 344 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting a total of 32,090 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the 344 new cases 188 were reported in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
The 43,200 doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine has arrived in Georgia this morning. UNICEF, which has supported the Government of Georgia in procuring the Covid-19 vaccines, has announced that the plane has already landed at Tbilisi International Airport.
Georgian health officials and doctors have received their first doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine earlier today live on TV. The country received 43,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on March 13 with the help of UNICEF. Deputy head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Paata Imnadze was the first who got the jab. After the vaccination he said that ‘I feel great’ and called on people, especially doctors to vaccinate.
