Journalists of Radio Liberty, Borjomi TV win award in honor of TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava

Journalists of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Borjomi TV are the winners of an award in honor of TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava.

RFE/RL journalists Tornike Mandaria and Dato Koridze won in the category of best human rights with the video Superstition and Pride.

Borjomi TV journalist Nino Liparteriani won the prize for the article Depression and Anxiety Disorder – The Impact of the Pandemic on the Mental Health of Children.

The award for journalists was created by Human Rights House following the events of July 5, 2021, when over 50 journalists became victims of violence, harassment and threats by right-wing activists during the Tbilisi Pride counter-rally in Tbilisi.

TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava was also attacked by right-wing groups on July 5. He received a concussion, facial bone fractures and multiple bruises.

Lashkarava was found dead at home by his mother on July 11.

Five months have passed and it is still unknown what the exact cause of Lashkarava’s death was. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is investigating the case.
