Georgia exports 14,600 tonnes of hazelnuts as of November 28

A total of 14,600 tonnes of Georgian hazelnuts have been exported from August 1 to November 28, which amounted to 66.8 million USD, the Georgian Agriculture Ministry announces. 

In January-October 2021, the export of Georgian hazelnuts and other nuts increased by 31.1% compared to the same period last year, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reported.

Georgian hazelnuts were exported to the following EU countries:

  • Italy (5,957 tonnes)
  • Germany (2,628 tonnes)
  • Spain (424 tonnes)
  • Czechia (423 tonnes)
  • Poland (337 tonnes)
  • Lithuania (284 tonnes)
  • France (239 tonnes)
  • Bulgaria (132 tonnes)
  • Greece (71 tonnes)
  • Latvia (70 tonnes)
  • Estonia (60 tonnes)
  • Belgium (41 tonnes)
  • Hungary (22 tonnes)
  • Croatia (20 tonnes)

Georgian hazelnuts were also exported to:

  • Armenia (930 tonnes)
  • China (780 tonnes)
  • Ukraine (256 tonnes)
  • Russia (337 tonnes)
  • Algeria (241 tonnes)
  • Saudi Arabia (2018 tonnes)
  • Belarus (186 tonnes)
  • Iraq (168 tonnes)
  • Switzerland (151 tonnes)
  • Mexico (120 tonnes)
  • Canada (95 tonnes) and others.

As a result of the spread of the brown marmorated stink bug in Georgia, hazelnut production and exports have been in decline since 2016.
