A total of 14,600 tonnes of Georgian hazelnuts have been exported from August 1 to November 28, which amounted to 66.8 million USD, the Georgian Agriculture Ministry announces.
In January-October 2021, the export of Georgian hazelnuts and other nuts increased by 31.1% compared to the same period last year, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reported.
Georgian hazelnuts were exported to the following EU countries:
- Italy (5,957 tonnes)
- Germany (2,628 tonnes)
- Spain (424 tonnes)
- Czechia (423 tonnes)
- Poland (337 tonnes)
- Lithuania (284 tonnes)
- France (239 tonnes)
- Bulgaria (132 tonnes)
- Greece (71 tonnes)
- Latvia (70 tonnes)
- Estonia (60 tonnes)
- Belgium (41 tonnes)
- Hungary (22 tonnes)
- Croatia (20 tonnes)
Georgian hazelnuts were also exported to:
- Armenia (930 tonnes)
- China (780 tonnes)
- Ukraine (256 tonnes)
- Russia (337 tonnes)
- Algeria (241 tonnes)
- Saudi Arabia (2018 tonnes)
- Belarus (186 tonnes)
- Iraq (168 tonnes)
- Switzerland (151 tonnes)
- Mexico (120 tonnes)
- Canada (95 tonnes) and others.
As a result of the spread of the brown marmorated stink bug in Georgia, hazelnut production and exports have been in decline since 2016.
