Fines to increase for sale of tobacco products at educational institutions

Fines will be increased for the sale of cigarette and other tobacco products within a 50-meter radius of Georgian educational institutions, a bill drafted by the Georgian government says. 

The sale of tobacco products near secondary, high or vocational schools will be fined 500 GEL instead of 200 GEL. 

Repeat offenses will be fined 2,000 GEL. 

Renting (or giving) a space for an event to popularize the consumption of tobacco products will be fined 1,000 GEL, while repeat offenses will be fined 2,000 GEL. 

Popularization of tobacco products in printed or other media to boost consumption will be fined 5,000 GEL, while repeat offenses will be fined 10,000 GEL. 

The bill will be presented in parliament for approval in the near future.
