Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani has stated that more than 800 people infected with coronavirus have undergone treatment on Tbilisi-controlled territory since the beginning of the pandemic.
She also noted that the patients were also treated in a field hospital near the Enguri Bridge which connects the occupied region of Abkhazia with the rest of Georgia.
Most importantly, Covid-infected patients are being evacuated and treated...For this purpose, the clinic in Rukhi [located near the occupied region of Abkhazia] was equipped and put into operation in record time,” said Akhvlediani.
A total of 247 students from Georgia’s occupied territories received medical assistance.
Akhvlediani said that the medical assistance included ‘the provision of medical care, awareness raising activities and sharing of expertise and experience.’
She also underscored that more than 2,000 people from the Russian occupied territories ‘received quality medical services in multi-profile clinics’ in 2020-21.
In addition, Akhvlediani said that Georgia supplies Russian occupied Abkhazia region with various medical means and medicines, noting that the total amount spent on the medical assistance exceeds 5 million GEL (about $1,597,290/€1,409,046).
