Berlinale selects Salome Jashi's Sundance-screened documentary 'Taming the Garden'

Film director Salome Jashi will see her Sundance Film Festival-screened documentary Taming the Garden shown to audiences of this year's Berlin Film Festival, which is expected to host the public-oriented part of the event in the summer.
The 71st edition of Berlinale has been split into two parts with the pandemic situation in mind - industry professionals will have their section of the festival hosted online next month, while cinema enthusiasts will see works selected by curators "in the presence of the filmmakers" in June, organisers have said.
Jashi's feature-length documentary is in selection alongside works by Ephraim Asili (The Inheritance), Avi Mograbi (The First 54 Years), Fabrizio Ferraro (The Luminous View) and other directors, with screenings of programmes set for June 9-20.
Taming the Garden was praised at Sundance for "astonishing cinematic style" and its director - recipient of awards from Jean Rouch and Nyon film festivals, among others - for "shrewdly observant eye".
The documentary presents Jashi's look at a controversial process of uprooting and removal of unique trees from Georgia's Black Sea coastline by a powerful man.
