A total of 3,000 Caucasian pine seedlings have been planted during the autumn in order to bring new life to the burnt Borjomi forest, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture reports.
The forest restoration project is being implemented by IDS Borjomi Georgia and the National Forest Agency.
The project aims to bring new life to the Borjomi forest, improve the ecological situation and promote active involvement of the public in the process of forest restoration”, reads an official statement of the ministry.
A total of 23,000 seedlings have been planted on an area of 4.5 hectares within the project.
Nearly 752 hectares of forests, including the Borjomi forest, were burnt following a major wildfire in Georgia in August 2017.
