Georgian Olympic Champion Lasha Talakhadze will be enrolled in the State University of Physical Education and Sports without exams, Rector of the university Guram Dzagania told Interpressnews agency today.
Dzagania said that Lasha Talakhadze would like to begin studying at the faculty of coaching.
The Georgian Ministry of Education and Science announced on September 15, 2021 that Olympic and Paralympic champions and medallists, as well as winners of World and European championships, would be admitted to the State University of Education and Sports without exams.
While explaining the government’s decision, Georgian Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that because competing in the Olympics requires the greatest physical effort and many hours of tiring and full concentration from each athlete, the government has decided to support them in the field of education.

Georgia won just two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021, by Lasha Talakhadze and Lasha Bekauri, though only Talakhadze expressed a desire to enroll in the University of Education and Sports without exams.

Georgian medalists at the Tokyo Olympic Games will receive cash prizes for their victories from the state. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at last night’s ceremony of welcoming the Georgian Olympic team that each gold medal winner will receive a money prize of 1 million GEL from the state, silver medalists will receive 500,000 GEL, while bronze medalists will receive 250,000 GEL.
The Georgian Olympic team has finished the Tokyo Olympic Games with a record number of medals in the country’s independence - two gold, five silver and one bronze. This year 35 athletes represented Georgia across 13 disciplines at the Tokyo Olympics.
Georgian athletes will receive 1 million GEL from the state if they win gold medals at the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. A total of 35 athletes will participate in eleven games in the Tokyo Olympics between July 23 and August 8.
Georgia's Lasha Talakhadze earned his fifth Weightlifting World Champion title and broke three records in the process, as the athlete was crowned in the International Weightlifting Federation competition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Friday.
