The international community is saddened by the tragic collapse of a residential building in the Georgian Black Sea town of Batumi on October 7 causing the death of eight.

The International Federation of Red Cross says their teams in Georgia are on the ground supporting rescue efforts.

The United States ‘extends its heartfelt condolences’ to those who have been affected by the apartment building collapse in Batumi.
Our embassy community will keep those injured and missing, and those who perished, in our hearts and minds. We salute the rescuers who are working tirelessly to save lives and help as many people as possible”, the US Embassy in Georgia wrote on Facebook.
Eight people, including three minors, have died following the collapse of a multi-block residential building in Batumi.
Flags on all government buildings in Georgia will be flying at half mast on Monday as October 11 has been declared a day of mourning.

Three people, including the owner of the ground floor, have been detained for carrying out illegal construction works violating the rules of safety.
The rescue operation, which has been underway for more than 24 hours, continues to find a man allegedly remaining in the rubble.
