PM Garibashvili: 300 rescuers search for 10-15 in ruins of residential building collapse in Batumi

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili who has just arrived in Batumi announces that about 300 rescuers are searching for 10-15 in ruins of residential building that collapsed in Batumi this afternoon.

A very tragic story happened. Our rescuers do their best to clean up the area in time. According to the available information, there are about 10-15 people trapped and we are doing everything to resolve the situation in time. About 300 rescuers are working, they have all the equipment and intensive work is underway", Garibashvili said.

He added that 'we should wait for the results of the investigation and, first of all, we should pray for these people to survive'.

There is also Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri on site who said that about five floors of the building have collapsed. 

As reported the rescuers have already saved two children from the ruins, including one newborn. One child injured in the collapse of a building is currently being examined at the Iashvili Central Mothers and Children Hospital in Batumi.

Director of the clinic Tamar Bakhtadze said that in addition to superficial injuries, the child also has a lower limb injury.
