Family of murdered Australian girl Shanae Brooke Edwards asks for life imprisonment for murderer

The family of Australian girl Shanae Brooke Edwards murdered in Tbilisi in late July, has released a statement urging the Georgian justice system to sentence Rafael Mursakulov, who stands accused of her murder, to life in prison.

Shanae Brooke Edwards’s family has thanked the Georgian government for offering financial assistance for her repatriation and the Georgian people ‘for the continuous attention, love and support during this difficult tragic period.’

We lost our beautiful girl incredibly tragically. She left many friends and family members disappointed and devastated. We are proud of all the successes that Shana has achieved in many countries during her short life,” the statement of Shanae Brooke Edwards’s family reads. 

The family also commended the work of the police and investigators, noting that they ‘were soon able to find Shana and arrest the culprit.’ 

Our sorrow and grief are unbearable. Please, continue to respect our family and personal space,” the statement reads. 

Shanae Brooke Edwards went missing on July 30 afternoon after going hiking in Mtatsminda park in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and was found dead on July 31. 

She was an English teacher who had been living in Georgia for about two years.

Rafael Mursakulov who is a citizen of Georgia was denied bail by a Tbilisi court on September 10 in case of the murder of Shanae Brooke Edwards.
