Acting mayor Kaladze names candidates for City Council membership

The ruling party mayoral candidate and incumbent mayor Kakha Kaladze has presented the candidates for Tbilisi City Council (Sakrebulo) membership for the upcoming local-self government elections.

Kaladze said during the presentation of the candidates that a month before the elections it is important to have a productive campaign, be in active communication with people, share their plans, as well as the City Council candidates, “who will be actively involved” in the development of Tbilisi.
I assure you that our team at the Sakrebulo will include professional, qualified and conscientious people”, Kaladze said.
The ruling Georgian Dream party named Kakha Kaladze its candidate for the second tenure ahead of the October 2 municipal elections.
Ruling party chair Irakli Kobakhidze is the head of the ruling party election headquarters, while mayoral candidate Kakha Kaladze is the campaign manager in Tbilisi and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is the campaign manager countrywide.
Former Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia, who now leads the For Georgia opposition party, has announced today his plans of running for Tbilisi mayor. Gakharia said that three months after the establishment of the For Georgia party it has been the one and the only political party with an increasing rating in Georgia.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says that the opposition parties are ‘campaigning’ for the postponement of the October 2 municipal elections because they are ‘destined for failure’ in the race. While presenting the ruling party’s majoritarian candidate in Mestia in the Svaneti region earlier today, Garibashvili noted that the opposition ‘has used the Public Defender’s office’ to push the government to declare a state of emergency which will automatically postpone the elections.
Four opposition parties, the United National Movement (UNM), Droa, Girchi-More Freedom and European Georgia have presented joint majoritarian candidates for Tbilisi City Assembly ahead of the October 2 municipal elections.
Georgian Dream ruling party has officially named Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi, as its candidate for a second term in the position, ahead of the municipal elections set to be held in October.
The Young Georgian Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) has filed a lawsuit demanding proportional voice in self government bodies be given to election districts based on population size. The NGO notes that some majoritarian districts are large, while others are small, however both large and small districts elect the same number of majoritarian deputies to local self-government bodies.
Incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has published a video address of former teammates from Italian club AC Milan on his Facebook page, in which they wish him victory in the upcoming mayoral elections. Former teammates including Paolo Maldini, Gennaro Gattuso, Francesco Totti, Filippo Inzaghi and Italian sport journalists characterise Kaladze as a responsible person and express hope that the Georgian people will again elect him mayor of Tbilisi.
