Nigerian businessman runs for Tbilisi mayor

Nigerian businessman Arinze Richard Ogbunuju has been nominated for Tbilisi mayor in the October 2 municipal elections by Our United Georgia initiative group.
Ogbunuju has been living in Georgia for several years.
Most Georgian parties and initiative groups have already presented their candidates for the elections, including the Georgian Dream ruling party and the united opposition.
The postponement of the elections due to the severe epidemiological situation is not still on the agenda.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says that the opposition parties are ‘campaigning’ for the postponement of the October 2 municipal elections because they are ‘destined for failure’ in the race. While presenting the ruling party’s majoritarian candidate in Mestia in the Svaneti region earlier today, Garibashvili noted that the opposition ‘has used the Public Defender’s office’ to push the government to declare a state of emergency which will automatically postpone the elections.
The party Anna Dolidze - For the People has nominated its founder Anna Dolidze as a candidate for Tbilisi mayor in the October 2 municipal elections. Anna Dolidze's slogan for local self-government elections will be ‘A mayor for everyone!'. Dolidze promises the people of Tbilisi that she will be the mayor for the people, regardless of their political views, social origin, nationality or ethnicity, and gender.
A number of opposition parties have put forward the United National Movement chair Nika Melia for the post of Tbilisi mayor, while Droa movement leader Elene Khoshtaria has been put forward for the City Council (Sakrebulo) chair for the upcoming municipal elections in October.
Nigerian businessman Arinze Richard Ogbunuju, who has been nominated for Tbilisi mayor in the October 2 municipal elections by Our United Georgia initiative group, says that incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who has been renominated for the post by the ruling Georgian Dream party, ‘has already done his utmost.’
