Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has announced today that the government is working to bring another 2 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Georgia.
He said that if the pace of vaccination continues at this rate 'we can expect 2 million people to be vaccinated by the end of September'.
Our epidemiologists tell us that September will be the biggest challenge for us and the healthcare system, while October will be a period of stability. Most importantly, it will allow us to not lock down the economy, shutting thousands of our citizens at home without an income or livelihood. We may impose local restrictions, but this should not affect the growth rate of the economy as a whole," he said.
Georgia received 29,250 doses of the Pfizer vaccine in late March via the COVAX platform, and 500,000 doses donated by the United States in late July. Georgia has also purchased one million doses of the Pfizer vaccine that began coming in on July 17 in batches.
The Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines are currently available in Georgia.
As of August 25, a total of 719,380 people have been vaccinated with one dose in Georgia which is 25.2% of the adult population, while 318,912 people are fully vaccinated (11.2% of the adult population).
