Olympic champion and former MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party Zurab Zviadauri has been arrested on charges of premeditated murder, after three individuals, including Zviadauri’s brother, were killed in eastern Kakheti region yesterday.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has reported that a verbal dispute led to physical confrontation in Tsinandali village of Kakheti yesterday.
According to media reports Zviadauri shot the man who earlier shot his brother dead.
In total four individuals were wounded in the incident, while three of the four have died.
One individual has been arrested along with Zviadauri on charges of negligent possession of a firearm which resulted in death.
Premeditated murder is punishable by seven to 15 years in prison in Georgia.
Zviadauri won the Olympic gold back in 2004, while he was MP between 2014 and 2016.
