GORBI survey: 46.8% of Georgians would vote for ruling party if local elections were held today

The survey conducted by the research organisation in the Caucasus region Gorbi, commissioned by TV channel Imedi, has reported that 46.8 per cent of Georgians would vote for the ruling Georgian Dream party if the local municipal elections were held today.
Respondents' votes for other political parties are distributed in the following way:
- United National Movement (UNM) - 27.2 per cent.
- Former Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s party For Georgia - 8.7 per cent.
- Lelo - 3.4 per cent.
- European Georgia - 3.3 per cent.
- Alliance of Patriots of Georgia - 3 per cent.
- Strategy Aghmashenebeli - 2.8 per cent.
TV channel Imedi reports that 1,953 people were interviewed within the survey across the country.
The poll was conducted between July 25 and August 4.
The local municipal elections in Georgia will take place on October 2, 2021.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the nomination ceremony for a mayoral candidate in Marneuli municipality of eastern Georgia that only the ruling Georgian Dream party will be able to maintain peace and stability in the country. PM Garibashvili underscored that many problems remain unresolved such as lack of water and gas supply, paving roads and cultivation of agricultural lands in various Georgian villages, noting that ‘this should be our [the ruling party’s] main concern.’
Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia) and International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) have left consultations to select members for the Georgian Central Election Commission’s advisory group for election disputes.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has confirmed October 2 as the date of local self-government elections of Georgia.
The International Republican Institute (IRI) has released the results of a nationwide poll which revealed that 75 per cent of Georgians are very likely to vote in the upcoming municipal elections. 25 per cent of the voters who are not likely to participate in the local elections say that they ‘do not have confidence in the electoral process.’
The European Georgia, Girchi - More Freedom and Movement Droa will nominate joint majoritarian candidates in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi for the upcoming October 2 local municipal elections on August 15. Droa movement Leader Elene Khoshtaria stated that the municipal elections are ‘special elections, which is essentially a referendum,’ noting that the opposition understands its responsibility before the Georgian population to propose the choice which will ‘give them [Georgian citizens] faith.’
European Council President Charles Michel has tweeted that the deadline for disbursement of macro financial assistance is looming and ‘it is time for the Georgian government to demonstrate its commitment to the agreements and notably the reform agenda.’ Michel’s tweet comes after yesterday’s meeting with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili during the Crimea Platform forum in Kyiv.
A public opinion poll published on Thursday by the Tbilisi-based Georgian Opinion Research Business International has put the approval rating of the ruling Georgian Dream party at 53 percent.
