Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the nomination ceremony for a mayoral candidate in Marneuli municipality of eastern Georgia that only the ruling Georgian Dream party will be able to maintain peace and stability in the country.

PM Garibashvili underscored that many problems remain unresolved such as lack of water and gas supply, paving roads and cultivation of agricultural lands in various Georgian villages, noting that ‘this should be our [the ruling party’s] main concern.’

In all directions, in all parameters, we set the maximum result, but it is not enough, we all have to do more together,” said Garibashvili.

Garibashvili also stressed the importance of holding safe local elections amid the coronavirus pandemic and surge of daily new cases in Georgia, noting that the election campaign should be conducted with facemasks.

In 2024, we need to meet the parliamentary elections even more strongly, that should be our task,” Garibashvili said.

Irakli Garibashvili with Georgian Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze and Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava visited the school in the village Jandara, Marneuli municipality.

The construction of an Azeri-language public school in the village Jandara was completed a few months ago with the Georgian government’s funding. The school is designed for 300 students and the total cost of the project is 3,882,000 GEL (about $1,250,241/€1,063,765). Photo: Government of Georgia press office.

The Georgian government reported that ‘in the new school year of 2021-2022, students will meet in 64 newly built and 64 fully rehabilitated public schools across Georgia.’

The local municipal elections in Georgia will take place on October 2, 2021.

In the parliamentary elections of 2020, there was a confrontation between the supporters of the ruling Georgian Dream party and the largest opposition party United National Movement (UNM) in Marneuli.

Over the years, clashes between the supporters of the main political parties of Georgia have often erupted in Marneuli municipality.
