Deceased Georgian cameraman tops global list of ‘10 most urgent' cases of journalists under attack

Georgian cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, who was beaten up by Tbilisi Pride counter demonstrators on July 5 and died on July 11, tops the August ranking of the One Free Press Coalition’s ‘10 Most Urgent’ list of journalists who were attacked while performing professional duties.

TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava was found dead at home on July 11 by his mother.

Lashkarava was one of the 53 media representatives who were attacked by right-wing groups during the Tbilisi Pride counter rally on July 5. He received a concussion, facial bone fractures and multiple bruises.

Lekso Lashkarava is on the list of One Free Press Coalition among Libyan, Afghan, Iraqi, Iranian, Brazilian, Turkish, and Estonian journalists.

TV Pirveli cameraman died in Tbilisi days after he sustained a concussion and broken bones in his face, and underwent surgery as a result of an attack by anti-LGBTQ protesters while covering a demonstration in the capital. Police have launched a criminal investigation into his death”, says the One Free Press Coalition about Lashkarava.

The members of the organisation are the Washington Post, Radio Liberty, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, Bloomberg, Forbes, and Al Jazeera.
