Shopping malls will open their doors starting February 1 with dressing rooms working and already sold products allowed to be exchanged as well, said Infrastructure Minister Maia Tskitishvili earlier today after a meeting with representatives of malls and shopping malls at the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia.
She said that the negotiations are underway with the Labour Inspection Office to agree on the requirements before opening malls and noted that some restrictions like the amount of people accessed to one square meter of commercial space may be lightened.
Before, shopping centres were opened between December 24 and January 2 from 7 am to 7 pm.
Only one customer per every 20 square meters of floor space was allowed in.
At that time, sales were allowed to be announced in the morning or for items available through online shopping only.
Georgia has reported 1,618 new cases of coronavirus, 403 recoveries and 26 deaths in the past 24 hours. 12,772 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today. 19,438 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country. 10,774 of the 19,438 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 8,664 were PCR tests.

Several coronavirus-related restrictions will be lifted in Georgia in February and in March, following a plan approved at today's Interagency Coordination Council meeting. Georgian Infrastructure Minister and the first Deputy Prime Minister Maia Tskitishvili said that since there are signs of an easing of the epidemiological situation in some regions of Georgia, there is also the possibility of lifting several restrictions.

Over 100 restaurants in Tbilisi will stop working on January 30 for 24 hours as a form of protest against the coronavirus restrictions in the restaurant sector, according to which they can only work with takeaway service, said founder of the Georgian Restaurateurs Association Shota Burjanadze.
Representatives of various businesses are holding a protest rally in front of the administrative building of the government of Georgia demanding the coronavirus-related restrictions be lifted. Claiming that restaurants, hotels and winter resorts will fail to recover unless they reopen as soon as possible. The protesters say that therefore their businesses wil die out eventually.
Several Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted in Georgia today since there are signs of an easing of the epidemiological situation in some regions of Georgia, the government announced earlier today. Municipal transport will resume operations in five Georgian cities of Batumi, Zugdidi, Gori, Poti and Telavi, but will not operate on weekends in order to manage increased mobility.Shops and shopping centres are opened in the same five cities during the working days and will be closed on weekends.
Organisations that violate Covid-19 restrictions in Georgia will no longer be eligible to receive support from state programmes and will not receive state subsidies, announced Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia at today's government meeting.
