An opposition political party For Georgia has made an official decision to participate in the 2021 local self-government elections.

The chairman of the party Giorgi Gakharia has named his two deputies – Natia Mezvrishvili and Giorgi Khojevanishvili.

The political council of For Georgia appointed Berdia Sichinava as the party’s executive secretary, Kakhaber Kemoklidze as political secretary and Saba Jikidze as youth secretary.

On August 2, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili confirmed October 2 as the date of local self-government elections of Georgia.

On August 1, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream Party Irakli Kobakhidze said 'Giorgi Gakharia's party remained dysfunctional after the extraordinary elections were removed from the agenda'.

Our [Georgian Dream's] decision on the annulling of our signatory status to the April 19 EU-mediated agreement put the two political forces in the most difficult position. This is the National Movement, which was the main culprit in the annulment of this agreement. The second one, of course, is Gakharia", Kobakhidze told Imedi TV.

Kobakhidze noted that Gakharia's party For Georgia was set up with the sole purpose of somehow helping the United National Movement so that the Georgian Dream could not take 43% , which would lead to extraordinary elections.  He said due to the fact that the issue of Extraordinary elections was removed from the agenda, Gakharia's party remained dysfunctional.
