Gori Municipality Mayor Konstantine Tavzarashvili has dismissed his two deputies for endorsing ex-Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s party.

Tavzarashvili stated that his deputies, Erasti Elijarashvili and Paata Ivanishvili, have recently publicly lent support to ex-PM Gakharia and urged employees of City Hall to join the future political party of the former PM.

Georgia faces so many challenges and instead of doing their job, they [Elijarashvili and Ivanishvili] were busy with campaigning. Such people will not be allowed to hold top positions'', said Tavzarashvili.

Earlier today Erasti Elijarashvili and Paata Ivanishvili stated during a press conference that they ‘are going to fight with Giorgi Gakharia’s team in the self-government elections’.

Gakharia resigned on February 18, 2021, saying that the step was connected with the upcoming arrest of the opposition MP and the head of the United National Movement opposition party Nika Melia.

Later in March Gakharia announced that he had no plans to leave the country or politics. Soon after the announcement six MPs of the ruling Georgian Dream left the party to join the future political party of former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.
