Police detain former employee of MIA for forcing 45-year-old man to beg for money in Tbilisi

Police have detained 37-year-old Gela Chaladze, former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), for human trafficking in Tbilisi.
The MIA says that Chaladze systematically forced a 45-year-old (N.CH.) man to beg in the streets of Tbilisi on a daily basis under threats of abuse and physical violence.
The ministry released an audio conversation between Chaladze and N.CH and the 45-year-old where the offender demanded N.CH. bring him money, with which he was going to buy him psychotropic drugs.
Rustavi 2 reported that Gela Chaladze was an employee of the Constitutional Security Department (CSD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs up until 2006.
Rustavi 2 also says that Chaladze had been friends with the 45-year old man for seven years and they had a common business which turned out to be unsuccessful.
After that Chaladze started to force his friend to beg for money in Tbilisi.
Chaladze will face 12 years in prison if convicted.
A father and son have been arrested for human trafficking in Ninotsminda, a town in the southern Georgia region of Samtskhe-Javakheti which borders Armenia.
Seven individuals, including a mother and two doctors, have been detained by Georgian law enforcers for child trafficking. The detainees attempted to sell a newborn child for $13,000, the investigative department of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia reported today.The ministry reports that during pregnancy the detainees found an individual who wanted the child and was ready to pay the money.
A man has been detained for forcing his nine- and 12-year-old children to beg in the street or sell small items in various districts of Tbilisi since 2019 till November 2020.
A 20-year-old man has been arrested for disposing of hundreds of plastic bottles in the Ktsia River in the Kvemo Kartli region. Footage of the man’s act was spread on social media earlier today.
The Georgian government has maintained the highest level of fighting trafficking, the US Department of State said in its 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report. The report says that the government of Georgia managed to demonstrate sustainable efforts considering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on its anti-trafficking capacity.
