McDonald’s opens bread factory Breadfield in Tbilisi

The McDonald’s Group in Georgia has opened its first bread factory, Breadfield, in the capital city of Tbilisi today which will supply buns to McDonalds restaurants not only in Georgia, but also in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In total 26 million GEL was invested in Breadfield which currently employs 30 people and plans to employ 100 people in the future.

Deputy Economy Minister Irakli Nadareishvili, who attended the Breadfield opening ceremony today, said that 'it is gratifying that at a time when the pandemic is still one of the main challenges in the world, including in our country, high-class enterprises of regional importance are being opened in Georgia and new jobs are being created'.

US Ambassador Kelly Degnan also participated in the opening event, congratulated McDonald's on its successful expansion in Georgia and expressed the Embassy’s continued support for US investment in this country.

What is really important is that these bread buns for your Big Mac and your cheeseburgers, they are going to be sold not just in Georgia, but in Armenia and Azerbaijan and in Southern Russia. So, that gives Georgia a much more important role in international trade for this region", Degnan said.

The country’s first McDonald's restaurant opened in Tbilisi in 1999.
