Police and rescuers are still searching for 24-year-old Georgian Dito Khelkhelauri who went missing in the Polish capital of Warsaw on June 11.
An investigation is underway into a possible suicide, as the police found Khelkhelauri's backpack near the lake in Warsaw and witnesses say he jumped into the water.
However, the mother of Khelkhelauri, Ia Ochiauri, doubts that her son committed suicide.
She said that the last time she called her son was on June 10, but Khelkhelauri did not respond to her, sent her a SMS that he was busy and would call her back later.
Ochiauri said that her son was with his friends that time at a bar and returned home at about 2-3 a.m.
We are told that his trace seems to be lost at this time, but the next day my son was seen by a friend coming out of the house and was carrying a backpack", said Ochiauri.
The family of Khelkhelauri are not in Poland and for this reason they do not have access to the case files.
The only thing we know from the investigation is that search operations are underway at the lake where Dito's personal belongings were allegedly found. We only know that they found Dito's backpack and credit card near the bridge. However, we do not know if the examination determined that these items really belonged to Dito", Ochiauri said.
In order to gain access to the case files Khelkhelauri’s family hired a lawyer in Poland on June 24.
€1,200 was collected in Georgia to hire a lawyer in Warsaw. This amount is enough for the lawyer to start working at the first stage”, Ochiauri said.
Khelkhelauri left Georgia for Poland to find work four years ago. His mother said he was working at a private company involved in construction.
