Coach of female football tream charged with sexual assault, embezzlement

The coach of a Georgian female football club has been charged with sexual assault against the members of the team and embezzlement, announces the Partnership for Human Rights (PHR), an organisation that works to protect the rights of various social groups.
The coach has been released on bail.
The court did not allow the lawyer of the plaintee female players, without any justification, to attend the court session, thus preventing the victims from participating in the criminal proceedings. The court also did not forbid the coach accused of the crime to approach the girls (victims), which is why the accused deliberately appears in the spaces where the girls are (including during the match) and thus deliberately causes repeated trauma, intimidating and stressing the girls", states the PHR.
The PHR demands the prosecution take all measures immediately to ensure the safety of the female players.
An individual, identified as G.I. and born in 1990, was detained in the eastern Georgian region of Kakheti for domestic violence and threat as well as sexual assault against a minor.
Child abuse cases have decreased in Georgia by almost 30 per cent, with 1,146 cases reported in January and August 2020.The figure stood at 1,624 in the same period of last year, IPN writes, citing the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the Victims of Human Trafficking. The majority of the cases of child abuse included psycholgical viollence, neglect and coercion.
287 cases of sexual abuse against children were reported last year, according to the official data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. In 2017 the figure stood at 174.
