Opposition politicians will gather at Rike Park in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Monday, April 19, to inform the population about their further plans.
One of the leaders of Strategy Aghmashenebeli, Tako Charkviani, said after today’s meeting with other opposition politicians that this will be a kind of 'a prelude' to the large opposition rally scheduled on May 15.
The opposition gathering will start at 3 p.m. on Monday.
This will not be a large demonstration, but rather a presentation of… large joint headquarters”, Charkviani said.
Opposition politicians discussed their plans at the Labour Party office earlier today.
Party leader leader Shalva Natelashvili said they have determined a strategy for this politically ‘emotional' Spring, which should lead the country to peaceful transfer of power through elections.
It is time we appeal to the [US] Department of State, [and] the European Union to impose sanctions against [former ruling party chair] Bidzina Ivanishvili and his close allies”, Natelashvili told journlaists.
This, he said, would fasten de-escalation of the current political crisis in ‘civilised and fair manner’.
Natelashvili, like other opposition politicians, refuses to sign the EU-proposed agreement with the ruling party until ‘political prisoners’ are released.
The 6-point framework presented by @eucopresident #CharlesMichel that included snap elections & release of ‘#PoliticalPrisoners’ was watered down in proposal presented by #Danielsson
