Dozens gather in Zugdidi despite state of emergency to receive face masks from library of ex pres Saakashvili

Dozens have gathered in Zugdidi,in western Georgia, to receive facemasks and hand sanitizer gifted by Saakashvili’s Presidential Library, despite the state of emergency in the country which bans more than 10 individuals standing together.
Saakashvili says that his initiative was financed by Georgians living in the US.
The United National Movement opposition party, founded by Saakashvili, says that the event was organised by the presidential library and not by them.
As of now there is a state of emergency in the country to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Georgia has had 79 confirmed cases of the virus since February 26, 2020. Ten have recovered.
Saakashvili faces several charges in Georgia and he has not come to Georgia since 2013.
US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan has praised the Georgian government for its ‘proactive steps’ to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus. “These are challenging times, and we are all trying to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy. We at the U.S. Embassy are particularly grateful for the pro-active efforts of the government of Georgia, including the NCDC, the PM, the president, almost every ministry, and parliament, doing their best to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus and minimize its impacts”, she said.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is offering about $6.5 billion to address the immediate needs of developing states, including Georgia, as they respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Georgia has reported three more cases of the coronavirus in the evening, increasing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 70, including nine individuals who have recovered. As of now, the number of infected individuals stands at 59 in Georgia out of 70.
Private companies and individuals are now able to make donations in the national currency to help the poor and disadvantaged get through the coronavirus crisis in Georgia thanks to a StopCov foundation created today.
The eleventh individual has recovered from the new coronavirus in Georgia out of the 79 confirmed cases. A month after February 26 when the first individual had tested positive for COVID-19, the country now has 66 infected people.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has registered 131 cases of violations of the state of emergency during the last 24 hours throughout Georgia.
