Two individuals who attacked and verbally insulted police in Marneuli municipality have been detained. They face four to seven years in prison if convicted for their actions.
Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities in eastern Georgia are under lockdown after a local, 62-year-old woman tested positive for COVID-19 on March 22 and came into contact with dozens of others.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said that the detainees were under the influence of alcohol and attempted to obstruct the activities of police.
Sixty-six cases of coronavirus have been reported in Georgia since February 26, 2020. Nine of the 66 have recovered. No deaths have been reported in the country so far.
As of now 3,320 people in Georgia are under quarantine and 235 others are in hospitals.
