The Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has set up a field hospital in Marneuli municipality in eastern Georgia today after a local, 62-year-old woman tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, and who came into contact with more than 80 people and spent four days in a local hospital.

In addition, a special area has been set up near the field hospital earlier today to disinfect personnel who will be in contact with patients.
Infrastructure work started late at night on March 22. The Emergency Management Service will set up special infrastructure in Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities. The Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) incident response teams will conduct disinfection activities”, the MIA reports.

Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities were placed under lockdown late at night on March 22.
Movement inside the municipality is restricted. Locals are able to move about only to buy food, medical products or see a doctor.
The Georgian government has suspended public intercity transport in Georgia today. The restriction does not apply to private vehicles.

Georgia will test locals of Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities in eastern Georgia with 1,000 rapid coronavirus tests, which provide results within an hour and a half. Eventually the country will have a total of 200,000 rapid coronavirus tests.
EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell says that when the coronavirus is ‘turning the world upside down’ he ‘cannot think of a better place to be right now than here in Georgia.’Hartzell states that there are no easy answers regarding COVID-19 and that the EU is suffering much from the virus.“Just look at the pictures coming out of Spain and Italy these days. In this context I would like to congratulate the Georgian government and the Georgian politicians for doing what all evidence suggest is the right approach – to act early and to act robustly,” Hartzell said.
Georgia has had 22,803 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020. Since then 9,401 patients have recovered, while 178 others have died. As of today 13,224 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in the country.
The government of Georgia says that wearing facemasks in open areas in the three main cities of Georgia - Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi - is strongly recommended to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus. Georgia has reported 1,759 new cases of coronavirus earlier today and five deaths which is a record number since the country confirmed its first case of the virus at the end of February 2020. The majority of the new cases were recorded in the capital Tbilisi, Adjara and Imereti regions.
Independent majoritarian candidate for Didube-Chugureti district in Tbilisi and former member of High Council of Justice of Georgia Anna Dolidze says that the government ‘is preparing for the mass fabrication’ of the October 31 parliamentary elections with the use of ballot boxes.
