Parolees not to be required to visit probation offices amid coronavirus for a month

Parolees in Georgia will not be required to visit probation offices until April 14 after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the outbreak of the China-born Covid-19 virus a pandemic, Georgia’s Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani stated earlier today.

Mandatory appointments with a probation officer, social worker or psychologist have been canceled until April 14”, said Tsulukiani.

Tsulukiani also said that special meetings of family members with prisoners have been prohibited temporarily, though they will receive financial support from the Ministry of Justice in order to make  phone calls to family members.

As of now, there are 24 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Georgia, including a 12-year-old child who suffers from a mild form of the new coronavirus.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated today that all state agencies will work round-the-clock to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

The Georgian government has urged citizens to avoid visits to public service halls, territorial offices and notary bureaus except in cases of extreme necessity for the next two weeks.

The restriction may apply to gatherings of 100 people or more, including weddings and funerals.
