Head of the National Disease Control Centre (NCDC) of Georgia Amiran Gamkrelidze says that no internal transmission of Covid-19 virus has even reported inside the country and all 23 Georgian citizens who have tested positive for the virus were either in Italy, Iran, or had contact with individuals who traveled in Italy.
He said that 11 of the 23 infected individuals belong to two families whose members traveled to Italy in February 2020.
Of the 23 infected, with eight new cases confirmed late yesterday, two were infected in Iran, while all the other cases are connected with Italy.
It has been confirmed that one of the 23 is a 12-year-old child who suffers from a mild form of the virus. All those Georgian citizens who have been evacuated from Italy are now under quarantine in Georgia. Photo: NCDC.
The health condition of only one infected individual is severe, but ‘stable and manageable’, doctors say.
As of now 126 are under quarantine in Georgia, while 46 others remain at hospitals as they travelled in countries which have numerous cases of the virus or had contact with people who travelled to such countries.
