Georgia exported 12.1 million bottles of wine to 39 countries in January-February 2020, which is identical to last year’s data, says the Georgian National Wine Agency.
By selling wine abroad Georgia generated $31 million in the first two months of 2020. Revenues increased by seven per cent compared to the same period of 2019.
The statistics show that the export of Georgian wine to China decreased by six per cent and the deputy Agriculture Minister Khatia Tsilosani explained earlier that this was due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, the head of the wine agency Levan Mekhuzla said that Georgian wine exports increased to the EU, Japan, Canada and other traditional export markets for Georgia. He also noted that the price of Georgian wine has increased on international markets.
So far this year Georgia has generated $46.8 million (+7%) from the sale of alcoholic beverages abroad.
