About 26.47 billion GEL ($9.47 bln/€8.74 bln) was deposited in Georgian banks in January 2020, making for a 0.83 per cent month-on-month increase, show the latest data by the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
In the same time period, Georgian banks lent 31.92 billion GEL ($11.42 bln/€10.54 bln), which was 0.01 per cent decrease compared to the previous month.
In January, the sum of term deposits increased by 696.02 million GEL ($229.80 mln/€249.02 mln), while demand deposits, which allow for flexible withdrawal, decreased by 479.22 million GEL ($171.46 mln/€158.22 mln).
Loans taken out in Georgian lari increased by 10.45 million GEL ($3.74 mln/€3.45 mln), while loans denominated in foreign currencies decreased by 13.46 million GEL ($4.82 mln/€4.44 mln) month-on-month.
