In December 2019, 26.26 billion GEL ($9.07 bln/€8.23 bln) was deposited in Georgian commercial banks, which is a 0.08 per cent month-on-month decrease, show the latest data by the National Bank of Georgia.
In the same time period, Georgian commercial banks lent 31.92 billion GEL ($11.03 bln/€10 bln), which is two per cent more compared to the previous month.
In December, the sum of term deposits decreased by 407.56 million GEL ($140.81 mln/€127.71 mln), while demand deposits, which allow for flexible withdrawal, increased by 386.33 million GEL ($133.47 mln/€121.05 mln).
Loans taken out in Georgian lari increased by 319.74 million GEL ($110.47 mln/€100.19 mln), while loans denominated in foreign currencies increased by 238.91 million GEL ($82.54 mln/€74.86 mln) month-on-month.
The total assets of Georgian commercial banks amounted to 47.2 billion GEL ($16.31 bln/€14.79 bln) which is a 1.6 per cent increase compared to the previous month.
