European Olympic Committee positively assesses Georgia’s readiness for 2025 Winter Youth Olympics

The European Olympic Committee (EOC) welcomes Georgia’s readiness and positively assesses the resources and new infrastructure in the mountainous resort Bakuriani for hosting the 2025 Winter Youth Olympic Games, says Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The Evaluation Commission of the European Committee visited Bakuriani on February 6, 2020 in order to explore potential locations for the competition and all necessary infrastructure, including ski-lifts.
Peter Brull, the Head of the EOC, noted that Bakuriani has excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding competitions.
The high altitude location creates a good environment for snowy weather throughout the season. The athlete’s village and the guesthouse for high-profile guests are ready and meets the highest quality requirements”, reads the report by Brull.
In his report Brull also mentions that one of the most important motivations for Georgia is the legacy that will remain in the country after the event.
The created infrastructure will promote the development of winter sports in Georgia, including the reconstructed old track in Bakuriani, which is the most popular and the largest track jumps in Georgia.
The European Olympic Committee officially confirmed the candidate status of the ski resort Bakuriani in December 2018.
Georgia’s winter resort Bakuriani is bidding to host the 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships.
The 49th Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly has today decided to award host status to the Georgian ski resort of Bakuriani for the 2025 Winter Youth Olympic Games, announces Georgian National Olympic Committee.
Mountain Resorts Development Company of Georgia, which manages four ski resorts in the country and Shymbulak Development, which manages the Shymbulak ski resort in Kazakhstan, have signed a memorandum of cooperation.
