Georgian journalist Julieta Vashakmadze dies at 87

Well-known Georgian TV journalist Julieta Vashakmadze has died at the age of 87.
Since 1956 Vashakmadze has worked at the First Channel as an anchor. For some time she was also a director of the television.

She received a medal of honour in 1996, while in December 2013 a commemorative star to Vashakmadze was placed at the Mtatsminda park in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
An eight-member board of governors has elected Tinatin Berdzenishvili the new director general of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB), the country’s state-funded television network.
The director general of the state-funded Georgian Public Broadcaster, Vasil Maglaperidze, has resigned. Maglaperidze, who has served as the director general since early 2017, submitted a letter of resignation to the board of trustees today.
