Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has announced the launch of a new stage in the country’s long-term human rights strategy.
He said that the creation of a human rights strategy was initiated by former PM and current chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili back in 2013 and that the strategy has been taken into account in carrying out all democratic reforms in the country since that time.
Our government has always focused on human rights since 2012 [since taking office] and it all started under the guidance of Bidzina Ivanishvili, then Prime Minister of Georgia. We started work on a long-term Strategy on Human rights in 2013” Gakharia said.
Gakharia said that the Georgian government will use ‘all possible platforms inside and outside the country’ to successfully complete the new stage of the strategy [this year].
He urged ministers to actively participate in the process, within their competencies.
Gakharia stated that Georgia has “full support from donors” to continue democratic reforms in the country.

He said that the forum last week in Tbilisi, which brought key donors together, was successful.
Close cooperation with donors in the process of carrying out reforms is very important for us,” Gakharia said.
Gakharia stated that fast economic growth, creation of jobs, education reform, security field and open governance are among the top priorities of the government.
“We discussed all the issues in detail with donors during the conference and we received full support from donors in carrying out the reforms in the fields,” Gakharia said.
