All public and private schools will continue studies remotely until the end of the 1st semester in Tbilisi and nine other big cities due to the rapid increase in the number of new coronavirus cases in the country.
In order to reduce the mobility in big cities all public and private schools in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Zestaponi, Poti, Telavi, Gori, Gardabani and Marneuli will have to move to remote studies until the end of the 1st semester of the 2020-2021 academic year”, the Ministry of Education reports.
Schools in the Adjara region will also continue remote studies until the end of the 1st semester.
School students of all grades in Tbilisi, the Adjara region and nine other cities will have to attend remote classes.
Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze says that many more people are infected with coronavirus in Georgia than official figures say this.
Forty-two kindergartens have been closed in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi since October 12 after teachers and kindergarteners tested positive for the coronavirus.
In-person studies for school students in grades one to six have resumed today in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Zugdidi and Poti. School students of all grades in the Adjara region will have to attend remote classes, as most of the newly infected cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the region in the recent weeks.
As Georgia begins to ease lockdown, reopening of schools needs to be prioritised, says UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund) Georgia in an official statement. The statement reads that the longer children stay out of school, the more exposed they are to various risks.
Georgia has reported 3,801 new cases of coronavirus, 3,200 recoveries and 39 deaths in the past 24 hours. 18,759 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today. Georgia has had 118,690 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020. Since then 98,781 individuals have recovered, while 1,124 others have died. 6,165 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals as of today. 986 of the 6,165 patients are in critical condition. 452 of the 986 critical patients are on artificial ventilation.
