The renovation of Abastumani observatory, located in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia with an almost 88-year history, has been completed and will receive visitors starting in the spring of this year, the Georgian Ministry of Infrastructure announced earlier today.
The renovation work was funded by the World Bank with about three million GEL.

The project covered the renovation of the observatory building which was opened in 1932, the construction of a parking lot, public toilets, the renovation of telescope AZT-11 and the building adjacent area, as well as the modernisation of the cableway infrastructure.
The observatory will have a visitors’ centre, a café, an exhibition space and a renewed library when it will open to the public.
The observatory receives nearly 10,000 visitors annually.
