Ruling Georgian Dream, Lelo top two recipients of September election contributions

The ruling Georgian Dream party received 6,495,650 million GEL in election contributions last month, while the opposition Lelo party, which was founded by co-founders of TBC bank Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, received 1, 312,590 GEL, the State Audit Office reports.
Strategy Agmashenebeli received 1,172,837 GEL in election contributions last month.
The United National Movement received 665,400 GEL, while the European Georgia opposition party - 408,031 GEL.
245 individuals contributed to the ruling party last month, while 59 individuals did so for Lelo, 36 for Strategy Agmashenebeli and 90 to the United National Movement.
Parliamentary elections will be held on October 31 in Georgia.
Election polls commissioned by the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi say the ruling Georgian Dream party will receive 25 per cent of votes in the upcoming October 31 parliamentary elections.
Recent polls by the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) have revealed ‘sustained support’ for the government’s management of COVID-19 as well as ‘persistent anxiety over the economy’, saying that these issues ‘are motivating citizens to go to the polls on October 31 and make their voices heard.’
Political party Lelo, created last year by the co-founders of TBC Bank Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, has the highest support of voters among newly formed parties in Georgia, says the election polls conducted by British company Survation, commissioned by Georgian Rustavi 2 TV channel.
A total of 66 political parties have registered to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 31. The Central Election Commission also stated that now the registered parties must provide their party lists and majoritarian candidates no later than October 1.
The ruling Georgian Dream party has accepted the challenge of the opposition parties Lelo and Strategy Agmashenebeli to participate in debates in the coming days.
The ruling Georgian Dream party has spent 4.3 million GEL on election commercials between September 1 and September 21.
A survey carried out by Transparency International Georgia says that almost half of majoritarian candidates presented by parties in the October 31 parliamentary elections are business owners or are connected with business activities.
