Six Georgian citizens who have been detained in a joint Georgian-Ukrainian raid for an attempted car bomb attack in Georgia were sent to pretrial detention earlier today, with four of the detainees having a previous criminal record.
The prosecution says that the crime was planned in Ukraine and the detainees attempted to kill brothers Giorgi and David Peikrishvili.
Prosecutor Giorgi Kavsadze said that Georgian criminal boss Vato Kipiani ordered Trinitrotoluene for the planned attack.
“We have evidence and testimonies proving this,” he said in court earlier today.
He stated that Georgian and Ukrainian law enforcers are trying to identify the motive behind the crime and others involved, especially those who ordered the alleged attack.
The Georgian State Security Service announced the detention yesterday, stating that the seventh individual was detained in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Those detained in Georgia are Nugzar Bezhanidze, Gocha Tadumadze, Giorgi Binilauri, Beka Tsintsadze and Roland Beridze.
Bibilauri and Tsinadze have been charged with planning a murder, while four others with making and the sale of explosive materials.
The prosecutor says that ‘it is not easy to have access to Trinitrotoluene’ and the law enforcers are also trying to find out the details in this regard.
The detainees face 16 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
