Sex Offender Registry to be created in Georgia soon

Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is creating a registry of persons convicted of sex crimes, the ministry reports today.

The creation of the registry is defined by a special draft law on Combating Crime against Sexual Freedom and Sexual Inviolability. 

In February 2019, ruling Georgian Dream party MPs drafted a bill which makes sexual harassment a punishable offence.

The registry aims to prevent the crimes against sexual freedom and sexual inviolability and to simplify the identification of sex crimes,” reads the explanatory note of the draft law.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will process the personal data of convicts, while the rules of creation the list and processing of personal data will be defined by the order of the Interior Minister.
