One man has been detained for falsifying evidence and spreading false information pertaining to the death of 23-year-old IT specialist Tamar Bachaliashvili.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia says that Davit Purtsvanidze gave faked satellite photos to the lawyer of Bachaliashvili’s family Mikheil Ramishvili, who then presented the photos earlier this month, claiming they were evidence that Bachaliashvili had been killed, which contradicts the official account of drug intoxication.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that Bachaliashvili left her home early on July 18 and the same day (at about 12:13 a.m.) she reached the location in Tetritskaro municipality of eastern Georgia where her body was found on July 22.

A report issued on September 18 on the results of the official autopsy performed on her body established the cause of death due to the ingestion of toxic substances. The autopsy also said there were no physical injuries on her body.

Ramishvili said that the satellite photos showed that Bachaliashvili’s car was not at the site on July 19, adding that the body was allegedly brought to the place before July 22.

At a briefing on September 18 the Prosecutor’s Office said that the photos were fake and launched an investigation.

The same day Ramishvili named Purtsvanidze as the source of information and the provider of the photos.

Ramishvili says that the detention of the ‘source’ is ‘totally unacceptable’, stating that ‘more serious people than ones in the Prosecutor’s Office are likely to stand behind the murder.’

Ramishvili says that he might also be detained.

The investigation is covering up a group of murderers,” Ramishvili said.

Bachaliashvili was a high-paid IT specialist who had studied in France and worked for IT company Zeg in Tbilisi.

The company leadership says that they work exclusively for the US.

The family of Bachaliashvili does not trust the investigation and claims that the girl was killed as she allegedly came across some classified information or dealt with some ‘dangerous people.’
