The mother of recently deceased 23-year-old IT specialist Tamar Bachaliashvili, Teona Tamazashvili, has demanded the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) be included in the investigation of her daughters’ case, and threatens to otherwise begin a hunger strike.

Bachaliashvili went missing on July 18 from Polichala district of Tbilisi. She was found dead in her own car in a forest in Tetritskaro municipality in eastern Georgia on July 22.

Bachaliashvili’s family members and relatives have held a rally in front of the building US Embassy in Tbilisi earlier today, demanding a meeting with US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan and an objective investigation of the case.

After the rally Bachaliashvili's family members were told at the US embassy that Kelly Degnan was not present at the moment, though they were promised that a meeting with her would be held in the coming days. Bachaliashvili's parents were also told that the FBI would be involved in the investigation if the Georgian government requests.

Teona Tamazashvili said that if there will be no response from the authorities and the FBI will not get involved in the investigation process in the coming days, she will begin a hunger strike.

As the Georgian government is powerless to investigate my daughter’s murder case, I demand the FBI get involved in the investigation process. Also, I want to meet with Kelly Degnan. I want the American people to stand by me, because high-ranking officials are murderers and it is impossible to find justice”, Tamazashvili told the media.

The central department of Georgia’s Interior Ministry is investigating the death of the 23-year-old IT specialist.

Bachaliashvili’s family demanded the central department investigate the case instead of the Kvemo Kartli police department as the body was found in the Tetritskaro municipality of Kvemo Kartli region.

No explanations for Bachaliashvili’s death have been provided so far.

The Georgian Interior Ministry reported last week that ‘no injuries, wounds or other traces of violence’ were found on the body of Bachaliashvili.

The family of Bachaliashvili says suicide is impossible and that their daughter was killed.
