The grape harvest is continuing actively in Georgia’s eastern wine region of Kakheti, where as of today, 133,000 tonnes of grape have already been processed.

Grape growers have generated over 131 million GEL in income so far from this year’s harvest, the Georgian National Wine Agency announced.

About 80 wine companies are involved in grape processing, which on average process about 13,000 tonnes of grapes per day.

Local growers have processed the following grape varieties:

  • Rkatsiteli - 100,000 tonnes
  • Saperavi – 27,000 tonnes
  • Kakhuri Mtsvane – 2,000 tonnes

To date most grapes were processed in Kakheti’s Gurjaani municipality – 44,000 tonnes.

This was followed by:

  • Kvareli – 29,000 tonnes
  • Telavi – 20,000 tonnes
  • Sighnaghi – 18,000 tonnes
  • Lagodekhi – 9,700 tonnes
  • Dedoplistskaro – 5,600 tonnes
  • Akhmeta – 5,600 tonnes
  • Sagarejo – 1,500 tonnes

To note, the government of Georgia is subsidising the 2020 grape harvest, especially the grape varieties of Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane in order to support farmers completely sell their produce. The price of Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane will not be less than 80 tetri.
