Georgia reports 10 new cases of coronavirus

Georgia has reported 10 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today.

Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia said that one new patient contracted the virus from the Lenjeri village of Mestia municipality, four from contact with an infected individual and two cases were ‘imported’. She said that the source of infections has not been identified in the remaining three cases.

The number of recoveries remains 1,098.

In total 7,235 people are in quarantine. 17 people have died of the virus in the country, and 41 citizens of Georgia have been transported home from abroad for treatment.

Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 1,361 cases of the coronavirus. 

Meanwhile, mass thermo screening continues in Mestia municipality, in western Georgia, which has been under lockdown since August 10.

Deputy Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Nino Vibliani said that so far more than 400 individuals have undergone PCR testing in the region and the results have all been negative.

She also said that currently more than 700 people are under quarantine.
