The Labour Conditions Inspection Department carried out a total of 1,254 inspections and reinspections at construction sites in 2019, says the Ministry of Health.

There are violations at construction worksites but the resolution of issues picked up after the reinspection,” said Beka Peradze, the Head of the department.

He noted that the Labour Conditions Inspection Department also carries out inspection of the labour rights and added that the department carried out 1,500 investigations in forced labour and labour exploitation in 2019.

Peradze noted that Georgia has 100 labour condition inspectors in total, despite the fact that International Labor Organisation recommends 90 inspectors for developing countries.

Georgian inspectors are trained by the support of the International Labor Organisation and European Union which allocated $1.5 million. The grant will be used for inspector training for three years.
