The United National Movement member Levan Khabeishvili has received an eye-injury during  a clash at Tbilisi City Assembly earlier today.

Media recordings reveal a verbal dispute, with ruling party members calling on Khabeishvili 'to choose words and speak correctly,'  Khabeishvili also speaks and smiles, when one of the ruling party members slap him on the back of the head and a clash takes place.

Khabeishvili, who had one of his eyes bruised, says that “even criminals would not have acted in the way [against a single man] the ruling party members did.”

They [the ruling party] will receive a proper answer for their criminal actions from the people, during the upcoming election,” Khabeishvili said.

The video has been released by TV Pirveli.

Ruling party member Beka Davituliani said that in the last week Khabeishvili verbally insulted ruling party members while speaking to the media and the ruling party member who attacked him [Khabeishvili], was irritated by the statements ‘which pushed towards the clash.’

Davituliani said that Khabeishvili ‘has been engaged in staging provocations’ over the past two years ‘to be attacked.’

Unfortunately, he has been attacked... which is a negative fact,” Davituliani said.

The parliamentary opposition has condemned the incident, stating that the physical attack “seemed to be planned.”

Georgian Public Defender has urged for “a very strong reaction to the incident as if not the election year might be very complicated.”

The Georgian Interior Ministry is investigating the incident.
