Georgian professional racing driver Data Kajaia has been crowned the champion of the inaugural Georgian Digital Racing Championship after finishing just two points ahead of young Sandro Tavartkiladze in the competition.
The Georgian competitor, who has celebrated victories in 'real-world' contests like the TCR International Series, earned the ultimate win after 12 races held in six rounds of the calendar organised by the Georgian Automobile Sport Federation and Simulexe Racing.
Digital racing may sound easy, however competition here was fierce. The young drivers taking part were competing very well and I had to work hard [for my win]," Kajaia told Imedi TV in his comments about the tournament.
The final round of the championship, held at the Imola circuit, saw Kajaia, Nika Kobosnidze and Sandro Tavartkiladze compete for the ultimate title.

Kajaia fell behind the leaders on the very first lap, following contact with other competitors. However, the experienced driver recovered to the fourth position to secure enough points for the title at the end of the race.
Sandro Tavartkiladze, a young talent who finished third in the Asian Formula Renault 'real' contest last year, claimed the win at Imola and the second position for himself in the season rankings.
Rezo Bobokhidze was first among amateurs and took the fourth spot in the combined rankings of professional and amateur participants.
Over 20 professional and amateur drivers lined up in the competition, run in the Assetto Corsa simulation, with races held on European and North American circuits.
The championship was launched at the California-based Laguna Seca racetrack before moving to the Italian circuits of Vallelunga and Magione. The series concluded with three races at Nurburgring, Zandvoort and Imola.
Recordings of race sessions of the maiden online championship are available on the official Simulexe Racing YouTube page.
