The de facto authorities of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region has accused Tbilisi of sparking provocations and the ‘continued occupation of its territories,’ urging the international community to ‘duly assess Georgia’s illegal activities.’

The statement comes in response to infrastructure work in the village of Chorchana, Khashuri municipality of central Georgia, near the occupation line.

Roads to and inside the village are being constructed and renovated.

The de facto authorities say that it is Tbilisi which is ‘staging provocations at the border, erecting illegal barriers and making new police posts.’

The accusations come amid the international condemnation of Russia’s and de facto authorities’ illegal activities which include the erection of new barriers and the creeping occupation of Georgian territory.

Russia recognised two Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as independent republics after the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.

Since then only Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria have recognised the regions as independent states.

The rest of the international community is unanimous that the territories are occupied by Russia.
